[One Piece] If

I’ve started a new story. I’m aiming to update on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays again. Today is the first day, so there’ll be two chapters. The next one will be posted shortly.

The main idea came to me a few days ago, when I was rewatching One Piece and got to the end of the Dressrosa arc. Doflamingo said that Law was going to die anyway, and asked him to perform the immortality operation. Law replied that he would only do it if Corazon could come back to life. It suddenly struck me that killing Corazon was actually the worst move Doflamingo could have made. Once he knew Law had already eaten the Op-Op Fruit, Corazon was the person he most needed to keep alive. As long as he had Corazon as leverage, Law would definitely perform the immortality operation for him. That was the seed of this story, but don’t worry, it won’t have a bad ending. None of the three Dons will die.

The protagonist is an original character who transmigrates, but knows nothing about the story. You can think of it as a world where the protagonist has never heard of the Pirate King. So they can’t save every tragic character. There’s just one exception: the author is a huge Ace fan, so Ace absolutely has to be saved.

As for why I’m using an original protagonist instead of having a canon character transmigrate without their memories, it’s because canon characters are so easy to write out of character. Supporting characters are all right, but protagonists involve a lot of inner thoughts and reasoning behind their actions, which are difficult to get right. They say there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes, but I can’t accept a character I love being written out of character, even if I’m the one doing it. So I decided to make the protagonist an original character, someone I’m more familiar and comfortable writing. Rosinante’s personality in this story will definitely differ from the original, so please keep that in mind before reading.

By the end, the protagonist will only just reach the level of an Emperor’s second-in-command, and will be rather specialized, so don’t expect the fast-paced thrill of breezing through the story.
