[Western Crossover] Simply Wonderful

[Criminal Minds Reid BG fanfiction. The author’s column also features several other Criminal Minds short fanfics. Come give them a read.]

Yan Miaomiao’s parents have a strange obsession: they believe that names in the A-B-B pattern will bless their children with smooth lives and endless adventures.

So her eldest brother is called Yan Zhuangzhuang, her second brother Yan Kaka, and she is Yan Miaomiao.

Over the past twenty-some years, her eldest brother became a Wuying-level martial arts champion, and her second brother a business prodigy. Only Yan Miaomiao spends every day commuting to work, eating takeout, and living a life as bland as a glass of plain water.

Yan Miaomiao: Where are all those promised adventures? Is this happening to me on purpose?

Then one day, at a murder-mystery game, a friend bailed, leaving them one player short.

Yan Miaomiao casually pulled a passerby in from outside the shop to fill the spot. He was tall and slender, with curly brown hair, and looked like a shy, introverted high school student.

“Hi, could you do me a favor? Just one game.”

He hesitated. “...I might not be very good at it.”

“No problem! I’ll show you how!”

And then...

An hour later, she was caught up in a murder case.

A week later, she was caught up in another one.

Yan Miaomiao took a deep breath and stared at her life, which had been turned upside down.

The adventures I was hoping for... weren’t supposed to be like this, were they???
