Listen. Who’s crying?
A lot of strange things have been happening in Wanlin Village lately. First, the chickens at Widow Li’s house by the village entrance had their throats bitten through and their blood drained. Then Big Black, the Zhang carpenter’s dog at the other end of the village, barked day and night until it died... An old man with white hair leans on his cane beneath a locust tree. His cloudy eyes stare blankly as he mutters, “It’s haunted again. The haunting’s started again.”
After that, the village chief’s child went missing, leaving only a few drops of blood behind.
As everyone trembles with fear, an outsider enters the village. She is dressed strangely, with a pitch-black mask covering half her face and white cloth wrapped around her left hand and wrist. Her clothes are worn out, her high ponytail is a little messy, and her eyes are half closed. She carries a charred black piece of wood on her back.
The village children see her and shout with their bare bottoms exposed, “A ghost’s come to the village! A ghost’s come to the village!”
