"What kind of nonsense are you talking? You worked so hard to pursue Yu Zhiqing for so long, and now, after only three years, you suddenly don't love her? I don't buy that crap."

After his good friend Lu Wangjing shouts down the phone, several of the other guys beside him immediately look over.

Sun Celang snatches the phone and presses him. "Did you have a fight? When did this happen?"

"Is this guy trying to act like a jerk?" Lin Yehai quickly leans in and demands from beside the phone, "Didn't you say before that you'd never marry anyone but Yu Zhiqing? How could you change your mind just like that?"

The others fall silent, listening in. On the other end of the call, Lu Yonghuai grips his phone and turns around.

Yu Zhiqing is standing rigidly in place, hugging his coat. Even her breathing slows.

"I know you've changed your mind," Yu Zhiqing says quietly. She doesn't make a scene like she used to. Instead, she tells him with heartbroken clarity, "Your silent treatment is what I hate most about you."

On the phone, his friends' voices overlap as they try to talk him out of it.

Lu Yonghuai falls silent and hangs up. Acting on instinct, he rushes over and holds her.

Yu Zhiqing: "Let's break up!"

Lu Yonghuai: "Okay."

They began dating in the winter of 2011 and broke up in early winter of 2013.
