My name is Koharu Hayakawa, and lately, I've been having a dream.
In it, I'm kissing someone.
I can never make out his face, but I can't forget his eyes.
I think it might be my desk mate.
In the dream, my new desk mate seems to be completely infatuated with me, which makes me nervous. After all, I'm so ordinary.
I figure I'm just overthinking it. My desk mate is still that big, annoying guy.
Until one day, I see the exact same eyes from my dream. They sweep over everyone, damp and glistening, then fix on the seat where I'm sitting.
I don't know how he did it, but he somehow managed to sit next to me and become my desk mate.
He says his name is Yuta Okkotsu.
Everything in the dream seems to be coming true.
But I'd mistaken someone else for him, and ever since then, Okkotsu-kun has been acting strangely.
In class, I keep feeling someone's eyes on me. When I turn, I see him taking neat, orderly notes.
Even in gym class, I always feel someone watching me.
I think it might be my new desk mate, so I deliberately ignore him and keep a polite distance.
I'm hiding from the rain in a phone booth when I see him in the alley. The moment our eyes meet, he looks flustered. Crammed together in the tiny booth, he cries as he clings to my waist and begs me not to hate him.
But I've never hated him.
We share his little umbrella and walk to the apartment building where I live.
He watches me go upstairs. As the lights in the stairwell come on one by one, a smile that seems truly heartfelt appears on his face.
The light comes on on the fourth floor, where I live.
Now he knows where I live.
Okkotsu-kun walks to school with me every day.
Finally, one day, I open my sleepy eyes and find myself looking into Okkotsu-kun's damp, glistening eyes.
He's standing by my bed, looking at me just like that. Smiling, he gently kisses the corner of my lips.
I think I suddenly know who the person in my dream was.
It was Okkotsu-kun.
Okkotsu-kun says our world should have room for only the two of us. I think he's right.
