A soft-hearted, money-minded, short-lived bottom x a calculating, perpetually irritable, thousand-year-old top
When Shinu was thirteen, his grandfather, the only family he had, passed away. He inherited his grandfather's mountain homestay and took over his grandfather's caregiving job in the city.
Three years later, the coma patient he cared for suddenly woke up. That alone would have been surprising enough, but the man then turned into a cat who was quick to bristle. Seeing the money arrive on schedule every month, Shinu decided to treat the cat like royalty.
Then, not long after, the homestay suddenly collapsed, leaving him without a roof over his head. In the end, that arrogant cat actually spoke up first: "Human, I'll tell your fortune and keep you fed."
In his previous life, Xu Rangchen used the art of puppetry on the battlefield to save his country and its people, turning soldiers who had volunteered to die into puppets to fight the enemy. He also promised them that he would personally send their souls home, so they could be reborn.
But when he woke again, he found himself in the modern era. The country he had defended had been reduced to a few short lines in history books.
That wasn't even the worst part. The worst part was that within half a day of waking up, he had turned into a cat.
The good news was that he could communicate normally with people, and still had his powers of divination from his previous life. The bad news was that he could only communicate with the outside world by linking himself to one person, who would speak for him.
To search for the souls of his soldiers, Xu Rangchen had no choice but to link with a stingy man who didn't look very bright. He would earn travel money by telling fortunes and search for the spirits that had wandered the world for nearly a thousand years.
But the man he was linked to wasn't very clever. For all his own talent as a top scholar, Xu Rangchen ended up walking with him into one carefully plotted fog after another.
In the end, they earned no travel money and were led straight into a trap. It was there that Xu Rangchen discovered the man's fate was marked by an early death. Helpless, he accepted his lot and began searching for a way to extend the man's life.
Shinu's thoughts: This cat is impossible to take care of. He bristles at the drop of a hat.
Xu Rangchen's thoughts: This man is impossible to keep alive. His health bar is always about to run out.
Theme: A thousand years may pass, but loyalty never changes
