In the Age of Declining Dharma, the few cultivators disguise themselves as ordinary people, blending into the masses and living as normal a life as possible.
Lu Li is not a cultivator. At least, not in this life.
A thousand years ago, Lu Li conspired with the Heavenly Dao, giving up her cultivation and life to destroy the Ascension Stairway used by cultivators. In return, the Heavenly Dao allowed her to be reborn a thousand years later, in the modern age, with her memories intact.
Although she can no longer cultivate, the Heavenly Dao gave her better luck than most people. For instance, just as she was looking for a part-time job, an upperclassman messaged her with a job tutoring an employer who wanted to learn 3D modeling.
The employer was also surnamed Lu. When Lu Li went to her first lesson, she thought he looked familiar, but what concerned her more was that everyone in Mr. Lu's household was a cultivator. It seemed unlikely that her upperclassman had recommended this job by coincidence.
Before long, Lu Li learned that they had hired her to protect her. Someone from the mystical sects had divined that she carried a karmic connection to the Ascension Stairway. They believed she was the key to repairing it and wanted to use her.
This supposedly new part-time job had been arranged by a special department to protect her. After figuring out what was going on, Lu Li continued pretending to be an ordinary person who had been innocently caught up in everything, and kept giving Mr. Lu lessons.
Until one day, she discovered that her student, Mr. Lu, was named Lu Yanxiao, a powerful ghost cultivator who had lived for who knew how long. He was currently half-retired, which was why he had time to play classroom with her.
Lu Yanxiao... No wonder he seemed so familiar.
Lu Li fell silent for a long time.
Lu Yanxiao used to be a sword cultivator. Why had he become a ghost cultivator?
Because she killed him.
Reader's guide:
1. Modern cultivation story.
2. The story I originally planned overlapped with someone else's completed novel, so I changed the premise to avoid any misunderstanding. Apologies to readers who bookmarked it based on the previous blurb.
3. My previous outline-heavy novel made me lose my touch, so I'm starting this one to get back into writing long-form fiction.
4. I'll add more if I think of anything.
Theme: There's always a way through every difficulty.
