A few notes:
1. I first began writing this story in 2016 and finished it in the summer of 2017. It was the first long novel I ever wrote, but it had quite a few problems. Last year, I finally resolved to make major revisions, and this year I finally finished.
2. In the revised version, only some of the opening content has been retained. Everything else is completely different: the writing, plot, characters, and more have all changed considerably, so I prefer to think of it as a new novel.
3. None of the characters in this story are perfect...
