After Mistaking the Villain for a Fellow Countryman

Lin Chi transmigrates into a book and becomes a disposable character who dies a gruesome death.

In the original story, the disposable character is the Lin family's only son, a pampered young master born into wealth. He's also the male lead's lackey. At the male lead's urging, he bullies and torments the villain without restraint, only to end up dead at the villain's hands.

Lin Chi looks at the villain lying beneath him and can't help wondering if there's any chance he'll survive.

But it's not all bad news. He seems unable to die: every time he breathes his last, he goes back to the day he transmigrated into the book.

And the villain is handsome, clever, and, most importantly, he can speak English!

Lin Chi: Heaven hasn't forsaken me! Hahaha!

A fellow countryman meets a fellow countryman, and both are overcome with emotion.

Lin Chi weeps with joy. So I have such a powerful ally! I'm sticking with him!

Except...

His fellow countryman is so unlucky, he transmigrated as the villain.

In the original story, the villain is the greatest obstacle to the protagonist's conquest of the realm and expansion of his harem.

He is born with original sin: vengeful, disloyal, untrustworthy, a killer of innocents, and a power-mad menace to the world. Before the male lead comes into his own, he's virtually invincible, a minor character throwing his weight around over the protagonist.

But Lin Chi still feels sorry for the villain. Not because his morals are questionable.

It's just that the villain has a tragic past. He volunteered to be sent away as a hostage, and without being ruthless, he never would have made it back. As for killing innocents, that was really just the author's lack of skill. The author insisted on writing an ensemble cast, but could only hastily write the supporting cast out of the story.

The author piled all the hatred onto the villain, then wrapped things up with a happy ending for everyone else. The villain alone remained a one-dimensional bad guy from beginning to end.

Lin Chi is still mourning the quick demise of the character he loves when that very character shoots him a withering glare.

Given the situation, Lin Chi ought to team up with his fellow countryman, rewrite the original ending, change the disposable character's fate, and go home together!

His fellow countryman tells him he has a System, and his mission is to kill the male lead.

Lin Chi thinks it over. Maybe the original plot is so terrible that killing the male lead is enough to end it. So he becomes the villain's lackey again.

At every moment of danger, Lin Chi steps in front of him and dies in his place, over and over again. It's pitifully stupid.

Lin Chi: "You lied to me, didn't you?"

Wu Shuangmian: "So what if I did? You're cowardly, selfish, and full of yourself. What makes you think I'd go to all that trouble to take you home?"

Amid the clash of blades and a storm of arrows, that flash of green throws itself in front of him once more.

Wu Shuangmian once thought revenge was the only reason to live. Later, he realizes that it isn't hatred keeping him trapped, but the little fool who fears the dark and pain, yet always wants to stand in front of him.

Only the candle's heart is left to weep; gauzy shadows overlap, a cocoon enfolds the spring tide, and a kiss seals their lips.
