To film "China's Last Primitive Tribe,"
photographer Fang Huaiyan, who has 1.2 million followers in Bilibili's travel section, accidentally wanders into the Wa people's remote mountain region after posting a video just over twenty seconds long. There, he meets the gentle chief, Yan Wusheng.
He films intangible cultural heritage and experiences local customs. What was meant to be a one-week trip turns into two months of captivated wandering.
But on the day he leaves the mountains, heavy fog blocks the roads and livestock block the way. At an inn that appears out of nowhere, a cup of water sends him into a deep sleep.
When he wakes, Fang Huaiyan discovers he's been imprisoned. Yan Wusheng, who once catered to his every whim, is approaching step by step with incense that makes people obedient. He never intended to let Fang Huaiyan go.
