In ancient times, the gods fought a great war. The goddess who represented purity was defeated, and all the goddesses perished. Their altars of worship were destroyed along with them.
The gods decreed that humanity should treat anyone who worshipped the goddesses as an outcast, strip them of their rights, and reduce them to lowly serfs. As time passed, few people even remembered the goddesses, women became increasingly scarce, and the people prayed to the gods to grant them children.
Golden Crow Town was an intensely insular town inhabited entirely by women, yet newborns continued to appear there. When people found out, they began to plunder the town in search of the secret behind the births. They found nothing, and the town was destroyed.
Bai Mian is the last descendant of Golden Crow Town.
