A Maid's Rise to Power

With nowhere else to turn, Bai Ran sold herself into servitude and entered the Ministry of Rites Minister's residence to find a way forward.

The madam wanted a maid to accompany the young master in his studies. But he was fond of pretty things, so she was about to give up on the idea when a sudden change of fortune came along.

The young master said she was ugly and looked just like his cat. He wanted a human cat to keep, so she became a maid in his courtyard.

"Qiwu, you should eat more. You're really ugly right now."

"Qiwu, you look super ugly when you make me study!"

"Qiwu, why don't you talk? Even my taciturn older brother isn't as boring as you."

"Qiwu, do you want to be my older brother's concubine? I can help you."

Bai Ran knew she wasn't pretty. Everyone called her the ugly maid, but she didn't care. She wanted to seize every chance to learn something, work hard at the residence, and become a capable matron one day, living in glory.

Later, she was gradually raised into a plump, pretty young woman. The young master proudly told everyone, "My eye for beauty is never wrong. Neither the calico cat nor Qiwu is ugly!"

Bai Ran didn't care. She looked at her goal and silently checked it off. Another success!
