While studying far from home, Zhou Siqiao discovered that something about the world seemed wrong.
The summer rainy season was unnaturally long. The school's drainage system failed, leaving the campus underwater.
Just when the water finally receded, a prolonged heat wave hit, with temperatures still climbing.
To make matters worse, the graduate students who had stayed on campus weren't even allowed to use air conditioning. Zhou Siqiao was about to lose her mind.
What truly drove her crazy was that the heat wave lasted more than half a year, trapping her at school.
As one classmate after another died from the heat, she realized she couldn't just sit around and wait any longer.
She had to go home and find her mother.
