[Cruel, love-turned-to-hate male ghost x stubborn, avoidant, honest woman]
When Lan Miaozhu arrived in this war-torn age, she wanted nothing more than to survive. She relied on the young ruler whose kingdom had fallen, but after he restored it, the twisted man imprisoned her and clung to her obsessively.
Reborn at the start of their first meeting in the turbulent age, she was going to leave him behind and never be a fool for him again.
But a cold hand closed around her ankle.
The pale young man was strikingly handsome, his tone strange and stubborn. “Save me.”
In her previous life, Zuo Li’an fell in love with the woman who had dragged him out of a mass grave with her own hands.
She stood by him as he rose from the mud and reclaimed the throne, only to poison herself and abandon him after three years as his sole favorite.
So she had hated him all along, and hated his love, too.
He killed himself with her corpse in his arms. When he opened his eyes again, he was back at the familiar mass grave, with Lan Miaozhu trying to run away.
A ghostly resentment burned within him, twisting him out of shape.
He seized her viciously and threatened to break her legs if she dared leave him...
Using gratitude as an excuse to keep her by his side, he took his revenge on her without restraint, humiliating her with boundless hatred, yet again and again he secretly asked himself:
Why don’t you want me?
Love and hate split him in two: half vicious ghost, half abandoned dog.
Until one day, she resolutely crossed the river and left. He knelt on the riverbank, glaring at her retreating figure with bloodshot eyes, and dimly remembered his words from their previous life:
“I want Miaozhu to be my empress.”
“An would gladly be a little dog, crawling at Miaozhu’s feet, at your beck and call, for your amusement.”
“Miaozhu, I like you.”
Lan Miaozhu was timid. Gritting her teeth and summoning all her courage, she ran far away, planning to live an ordinary life and grow old in the Southern Kingdom, never again setting foot in the north.
So when she saw Zuo Li’an in the south, fear nearly made her deaf.
But she still heard him.
From his magnificent carriage, wrapped in furs and holding a sable, he watched the Southern Kingdom’s imperial clan kneel in a sea before him, kowtowing and begging for mercy.
And yet, he smiled at her alone, his eyes full of affection, and said:
Lan Miaozhu.
You heartless, treacherous bitch.
Author’s notes: 1. Both leads are virgins. A genuinely bad man x a weak woman with a hard life, dark and twisted.
2. Alternate universe inspired by the Northern and Southern Dynasties.
3. The blurb has been substantially revised, but the core premise is unchanged.
Content warning: Written to indulge the author’s tastes. Still a deranged, dark, melodramatic tale of a warped romance. The male lead is mentally unstable and cruelly twisted.
