As everyone knows, Florida does not tolerate idle people.
But patrol officer Sheng Yan is the odd one out at the station.
He hasn't fired a single shot in three years on the job.
A drugged-up brute charges at him, and he calmly steps back.
A lunatic carrying an alligator charges at him, and he gives the alligator a beanbag round.
A suspect who shaved a cat bald points a gun at him, and he pulls out his Taser.
His reasoning is simple: make trouble and you'll get suspended, and there's no overtime pay.
Everyone at the station agrees that he's the safest person to go on a call with, so all the rookies get assigned to train with him.
The new guy, Cain, reports for duty: tall and well-behaved, polite, dressed head to toe in designer brands, every inch the connected rich kid here to pad his resume.
Sheng Yan waves a hand. “You're driving.”
Might as well let the young master have some fun.
An hour later, Sheng Yan's fingertips have dented the metal of the car door.
Cain hoists an AR-15 and blows a hole through the windshield with two shots. He steers with one hand and aims with the other.
“The suspect is firing at the back of our vehicle.”
“They pose an immediate threat to the public.”
“I have no choice but to return fire.”
He opens fire.
A series of pinpoint shots turns a theft suspect who should have been cornered and dealt with into an armed fugitive facing serious charges.
It ends with three patrol cars wrecked, two kilometers of guardrail smashed to pieces, and a Florida highway shootout with six magazines emptied.
Amid the gunfire, screeching brakes, and Cain's calm, practiced repetition of legal disclaimers, Sheng Yan's soul leaves his body three times, only to be dragged back each time.
When the car stops, Sheng Yan stumbles out on shaky legs and turns around to yell, “If you love doing this so damn much, go be a mercenary!”
Cain flicks the barrel of his gun, pins Sheng Yan against the car door, and grabs his waist. “Sheng Yan, what I like doing isn't limited to this.”
From then on, Sheng Yan's easygoing days are over. Every day, he's either rolling his eyes and cursing Cain, or cleaning up Cain's messes.
“Six patrol cars wrecked, and you wrote it up as minor scratches?”
“They'll still drive once they're fixed.”
“A brand-new car ends up in a ditch after three hours. How am I supposed to explain this to the chief?”
“We caught a wanted criminal. Worth it.”
“What about the hot dog stands you flipped over for half a block?”
“Didn't we find two kilos of iced Americano?”
“Cain! You and Florida are a damn perfect match! Pull something like that again and I'll castrate you!”
“Sounds like you're ready for next time.”
“I didn't mean that! You... mmph... Don't use an evidence bag! Not that...!”
Bonus scene
“The suspect's taken cover! We can't see him! We need a K9! We need a K9!”
Sheng Yan takes the car keys from his belt and tosses them to an officer. “Go let my K9 out.”
The officer looks confused. “Since when do you have a police dog?”
“Go and see.”
The officer opens the back door of the patrol car and comes face-to-face with a pair of icy blue eyes like a wolf's.
Cain bares his teeth in a grin. “My turn?”
A laid-back, short-tempered bottom X a psychotic, thrill-seeking top who doesn't act human
