Miaohua was born on Miaoxuan Mountain ten thousand years ago, formed from the spiritual energy of Heaven and Earth. She later became a disciple of the Great Emperor Shennong and often traveled among mortals with her master. Because her true appearance was too striking and often brought trouble, she transformed herself into a man in her master's likeness. From then on, she appeared as a man whenever she vanquished demons and monsters. The God of War worshipped by mortals was always Miaohua in her male form, and few knew what she really looked like.
As a lofty immortal honored as a Venerable, her greatest passion in life was listening to gossip about her fellow immortals. As luck would have it, her closest friend was the Kitchen God, a revered deity who sat above the stoves in every household and had heard an endless supply of mortal gossip.
The two of them were a perfect pair. They often went together to teahouses in the mortal realm to watch performances, snack on melon seeds, and collect rumors about the love lives of immortals.
Then one day, Miaohua finally found herself at the center of the gossip.
The play onstage was about the strongest God of War in the immortal realm. It said he was profoundly powerful, had slain countless demons, and had never lost a battle. He was also exceptionally handsome, so he enjoyed a flourishing following among mortals.
Unfortunately, the God of War was a notorious womanizer. Not only did he keep a whole palace full of beautiful immortal attendants, but there were also countless tales of him seducing and abandoning immortal maidens, and toying with the affections of good men and women in the mortal realm.
Miaohua: "..."
The Kitchen God spat out a melon seed shell. "Hey, they're talking about you."
Then she heard a young man beside her, a rather proper and stiff sort, listening to the play's tales of debauchery. His face flushed as he angrily told his friend that the God of War was nothing but a lecher.
Miaohua had never bothered to argue with mortals. But that day, for some reason, she suddenly felt like picking a fight with one.
In the middle of the night, she revealed her true form. The young man saw a peerlessly beautiful immortal before him, but before he could say a word, she charged over and beat him up without the slightest regard for her dignity. Then she told him that if he had the nerve, he could ascend to the heavens and fight her again.
As it turned out, he really did ascend.
Miaohua assumed he would come seeking revenge once he reached the immortal realm, so she was sharpening her sword in her palace when she opened the door and found the stiff young man standing there.
His face bright red, he spoke in an overly formal manner, rambling on and on. Miaohua could barely make sense of him, but managed to piece together the following:
First, the God of War was not a suitable match, and the immortal maiden should not give her heart to the wrong man.
Second, he had fallen in love with her at first sight.
