He could even let himself dream of becoming commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard.
His prospects were bright, his future full of promise.
Who could have guessed that one careless remark would offend Shen Yuan, the eunuch in charge of the Directorate of Ceremonial in the imperial court? His chance at promotion vanished, and he was saddled with a life-threatening assignment.
