"There's an ancient evil spirit sealed beneath the eyepatch over my right eye..."
What if there really is an evil spirit sealed inside?
The warm evening light spread across the earth, falling over Su Fang.
Su Fang Hayato stood tall with a bow in hand, raising his right hand high as a crow bearing a message landed on its back. And behind him, a gigantic, snow-white, noble nine-tailed fox spirit bowed its head in protection.
Leaves fluttered through the air. Su Fang glanced back, his smile dazzling enough to define the whole warm autumn.
Under the witness of the setting sun, the students of Furin and Rikkai took in the sight of this peerless beauty.

Their feud can be traced back to a pact between one of Su Fang's ancestors and a powerful "evil spirit." Legend has it that Su Fang's ancestor was once an unparalleled exorcist, but one day he chose to save a great evil spirit, a natural enemy of exorcists. Grateful to the ancestor who had saved it, the spirit promised, "Call, and I shall come, at any time." But the ancestor had violated the exorcists' code, and was driven out by the exorcist world. From then on, a once-great family of exorcists declined with each passing generation...
Until Su Fang Hayato was born.
Ever since he was little, Su Fang Hayato had heard another voice inside his head. The voice was old and kind, and it kept him company as he grew up. To young Su Fang, it was as if a kindly old grandpa lived inside his head.
A slumbering great spirit awakened a thousand years later in response to the wish of a gifted child: to become a powerful exorcist, and to make his father and mother look at him more often.
The great spirit, who had promised, "Call, and I shall come, at any time," answered the child's call and took up residence in his right eye. But the surging spiritual power gradually changed Su Fang Hayato's right eye from its warm autumn shade of reddish purple to the golden yellow of a "divine mark." His already exceptional talent skyrocketed with the great spirit's aid, and he could no longer keep it from his parents.
The "forgotten Su Fang clan." Su Fang Hayato's parents knew nothing of their ancestors' great deeds and had spent half their lives in an ordinary world. Unaware of the truth, they thought their child had attracted an evil spirit, and sent ten-year-old Su Fang to an illegal orphanage, never to see him again.
"And that's when my master adopted me."
A chance encounter born of an unintentional act.
Mianluomen Ma, the current head of Japan's largest yakuza family, took it into his head to personally visit an orphanage in search of a promising child to raise. At a glance, he took to Su Fang Hayato, who had matured early and was clever yet well-behaved. After bringing Su Fang back to the family, Mianluomen Ma grew more and more pleased with him. He decided to train Su Fang himself and named him first in line to inherit the family. When he later discovered Su Fang's extraordinary talent for exorcism, he was overjoyed, and made special arrangements with the Natori family, the greatest exorcist clan of the era, to find an exorcist mentor for his beloved disciple and heir. This was how Natori Shuuji and Su Fang Hayato first met.
When Su Fang was twelve, Mianluomen Ma ordered him to travel freely and see the world. So Su Fang came to the "Dongfeng Shopping Street," infamous beyond its borders for being "notoriously dangerous, with an appalling public safety record."
The story of "Furin" began here.
But an urgent summons from the family jolted Su Fang out of his utopian dream at Furin High. The "Deputy Class Leader of the Tamon Crew," who had always kept his distance from others, concealed his reluctance and slipped away with ease.
At his master's arrangement, Su Fang transferred to "Rikkai." Watching tennis balls hurtle toward him and the club members move with abandon, Su Fang Hayato felt a moment's excitement. So, urged on by the tennis club members, he made the second impulsive decision of his life, one that would shape his future: joining the "Rikkai tennis club."
A beginner at tennis? No problem. Su Fang Hayato's extraordinary athleticism was his greatest weapon.
In just one year, a new star of "reddish purple" rose in the tennis world.
[But the "debts of the heart" he left unpaid in the past would always come back to find him.]
When faced with his Furin friends, who had crossed most of Japan and searched for months before finally finding their deputy class leader and junior, how will this "sly little fox" evade their ferocious "long-distance pursuit"?
With Rikkai and Furin pulling him in opposite directions and jealousy boiling over, Su Fang temporarily changes the subject with his graceful, captivating smile. How will he handle the danger of his identities as an "exorcist" and a "yakuza heir" being exposed?
"Who knows? For now, I just have to keep smiling."
