Chu Mingyuan, the fifth prince of the Tianheng Dynasty, was born unlucky. He choked whenever he drank water and got splashed by carriages whenever he walked. A prophecy that he would bring ruin to the empire earned him the cold disdain of his foolish father and the abuse of his brothers. His life was doomed from the start.

Everything changed when a fox spirit disguised as a woman married into the prince's residence.

Everyone said Chu Mingyuan was bad luck and avoided him like the plague. Only the fox spirit relied on him wholeheartedly, time and again asking him for affection and indulgence.

The fox spirit was the tender bud Chu Mingyuan cherished in his heart.

He taught the fox spirit how to navigate human relationships and shielded him from open and hidden attacks. He introduced him to friends, helping him learn how to make his way in the world. Even when the fox spirit offered him his sincere love, Chu Mingyuan, knowing his own fate was full of hardship, painfully refused him and urged him to let go.

He watered the flower with his own heart's blood and tended it carefully every day. At last, he watched it bloom, its beauty dazzling.

The fox spirit helped him put down a rebellion and protect the emperor, single-handedly facing a hundred assassins. He fell with him into an ancient tomb, where they narrowly escaped death. In the battle to defend the city, he planned alongside Chu Mingyuan and helped uncover the traitor.

When Chu Mingyuan finally ascended the throne, thinking he could at last return the fox spirit's love, the little fox who had given him his whole heart cut off every tie between them with his own hands and disappeared into the endless snowstorm.

Shuang Xu had always thought himself lucky.

To find others like himself, he gathered his courage and went down the mountain to take a chance. He thought he would have to endure eighty-one trials, but instead he met a man who looked after him at every turn.

He suffered no hardships. Instead, he was fed delicious food every day and had his fur brushed every night, until the man had turned him from a stray fox into a beautiful, pampered snow fox.

So when Chu Mingyuan proposed a marriage of convenience, with each of them getting what they wanted, he happily agreed.

Chu Mingyuan gave him his first home and a warmth he had never known. The little fox, new to the human world, naturally fell in love.

But Chu Mingyuan told him, "You mustn't love me."

It turned out Chu Mingyuan was always right.

Disaster, both natural and man-made, suddenly struck, splitting a chasm between them. Once dependent on the man like a parasitic vine, Shuang Xu now resolutely refused his attempts to win him back and left alone.

A year later, the snowstorm returned.

Chu Mingyuan finally found his fox again, only to see that demonic backlash had ravaged him. His dark hair had turned white, and his life was as faint as a dying lamp.

After their reunion, Chu Mingyuan seemed like a different person.

He was no longer restrained and controlled. He became fierce and domineering, using every scheme and means at his disposal to forcibly keep Shuang Xu by his side.

He even pinned him against the stone, his voice hoarse with pain and hatred as he said each word:

"Shuang Xu, I gave you the chance to leave, but you treated yourself so cruelly. From now on, your body and your soul will be bound together with mine. You will never abandon me again."

Notes:

1. The gong is the most handsome and smartest character in the story. The shou is the most beautiful and strongest. They dote on each other.

2. No side couples. The story focuses on the main characters.

3. The shou is irresistible. Men and women, heroes and villains alike fall for him, but he doesn't return their feelings and only loves the gong from beginning to end. There are scenes involving a lecherous villain and physical contact, but nothing actually happens. The gong is only involved with the shou, in body and soul, throughout the story.

4. The shou is beautiful, powerful, and tragic, with many scenes of injury and illness.
