If you asked who in the capital was most likely to win the hearts of the daughters of distinguished families, or who best fit the older generation's ideal image of an heir, the answer would probably be the Fu family's second son, Fu Ye.
The only problem was that Fu Ye had always been cold and uncaring, never giving anyone an inch of courtesy, let alone lowering himself to enter an arranged marriage.
So when news of a Tan-Fu marriage alliance got out, it stirred up a storm without a breath of wind.
Everyone's first reaction was: Didn't the Tan family's daughter die of an illness?
-
After Tan Hua recovered and returned to China, she met two people, and the most important decision of her life was made.
"Hua Hua, Xiao Fu is someone you can entrust your life to."
"Miss Tan, we'll be married, but we won't fall in love."
Except for love, Fu Ye was utterly indulgent toward her after they married, giving her everything she asked for.
So she often found herself marveling in secret in the middle of the night:
I'm so lucky. Not only do I have a huge fortune in marital assets, I also get all the alone time I could ever imagine⁄(⁄ ⁄ ⁄ω⁄ ⁄ ⁄)⁄
Whenever she thought of this, Tan Hua would wake the man sleeping soundly beside her.
She planted a deep kiss on his face, then nuzzled into his shoulder and cooed, "Hubby, marrying you is the best thing ever. Good night!"
Fu Ye was used to it. He claimed they were only married by contract, but when he looked at her obedient sleeping face, he couldn't help pulling her closer.
His excuse was, "You're frail. You'll be less likely to get sick if you sleep here."
