The Heartthrob Died and Still Asked If I Loved Him

Question: What's it like to be a cannon-fodder character who gets loved by the beloved, universally adored protagonist?

Lin Yi: Thanks for asking. I guess it means I die a different way every day.

Lin Yi is a cannon-fodder character in a novel, as insignificant as a grain of sand.

Yet he somehow gets the love of the universally adored protagonist, someone others can only dream of having.

Given his looks and status, it might seem like a blessing.

But he's forced to endure the jealousy of the protagonist's love interest and other love interests, and eventually dies at the hands of these two lunatics.

System: [Don't even think about escaping. Unless the protagonist dies, do you have what it takes to kill him?]

Of course Lin Yi doesn't. Otherwise, he wouldn't have died hundreds of times in the novel.

"I can't, but I could make the protagonist die for love, couldn't I?"

[Ha! Who do you think you are...?]

At first, the System scoffs at Lin Yi, until it sees the protagonist and his love interest fighting to die for him.

--Ha ha, how did it come to this?

--Who could have guessed these two crazy love interests would be such hopeless romantics?

World One: A captured master x an outer disciple who has never met his master

System: [The protagonist's love interest has fallen to darkness and turned demonic, imprisoning the master he could never have.]

[And you, my dear outer-disciple cannon fodder, will have your cultivation crippled and be assigned to care for the master. If you aren't attentive enough, the protagonist's love interest will punish you. If you're too attentive, he'll get jealous. Either way, you'll die.]

Lin Yi looks at the master who sees him as his only hope. He slowly bends down and murmurs in the man's ear, "Master, since you like me so much, would you be willing to give me the little cultivation you have left? I'll get you out of here."

"Master, if I can't save you, you won't blame me, will you?"

"Master, if only one of us can live, you'd want it to be me, right...?"

The master sacrifices himself so Lin Yi can survive, but Lin Yi doesn't even glance at his bloodied body. He turns and leaves.

Lin Yi thinks he can return to his peaceful life as cannon fodder, but the corrupted, universally adored protagonist grabs him, pins him down, and tugs at his sash. His scalp goes numb.

"Wait, you're the one who's supposed to be pursued. You can't do that... I..."

The universally adored protagonist curls his lips, his eyes devoid of laughter. "That's why I'm here to fuck you."
