This is an officially timed spin-off of the original Water Margin, a supernatural tale focusing on an undisclosed legend from the period in which the original story leaves the Wanderer Yan Qing's whereabouts unknown. Set against the chaos of the fifth year of Xuanhe in the Great Song, it blends the chivalrous spirit of Water Margin with the eerie atmosphere of classical Chinese supernatural tales. It fills in Yan Qing's unknown deeds of vanquishing demons and saving the world, while remaining faithful to the original characterization and historical events, and lays crucial groundwork for Yan Qing's eventual retirement after accomplishing his mission.
