The Poor Taoist's Odd Jobs

Yan Xu is a poor Taoist in the modern day. Because he's broke, he has to take temporary jobs.

He has only one goal when he comes down from the mountain: make money.

He applies for a night-shift job as a cemetery caretaker in the suburbs.

In the silent cemetery, Yan Xu walks among the rows of tombstones, flashlight in hand.

When he reaches an empty grave that has been dug ahead of time, the lights suddenly go out.

Yan Xu: "This hole is exactly my size. Are you planning to bury me?"

Holding a talisman, he forms a hand seal and sighs. "Ghosts these days are getting more and more unprofessional. Now I'm going to be late getting off work."

All the ghosts take several synchronized steps back.

One ghost timidly raises its hand. "Um, is it too late for us to apologize? We can take your night shift for you!"

He changes jobs every so often, because at every temp job, he runs into a strange man.

The man shields him from negative energy, cleans up the mess, and insists on stuffing a bank card into his hands. "Is this enough? If not, you can have my life too."

Yan Xu: "...I'm a respectable Taoist!"

Yan Xu exorcises evil spirits and slays demons as he goes. Every odd job he takes reveals another piece of a terrifying story where the living dare not tread.

But in every dungeon, there's someone who's hopelessly lovesick.

Yan Xu: "I thought I was here to piece together the stories."

Lu Xun: "Right, you piece the stories together, and I piece you together. Tonight, should I piece you into a convex or a concave shape?"
