Where Does the Water in My Hometown Come From?

They say one should remember the source of every drink of water. Hoping to discover the source of the water in their hometown, Mo Bao, a water station protection officer, and Kuai Xue, a researcher, set out together on a difficult but deeply meaningful journey.

They crossed vast, emerald-green seas of rice, joining the animals there in lighting fires to bless the fields with a good harvest, and using fireworks to send messages and outsmart a locust swarm.

In the rugged, sprawling Qinzhuling mountains, they witnessed exquisite bamboo craftsmanship that could make a bamboo basket hold water without letting a single drop escape. When a torrential downpour put the people of Shenglongpo Village in danger, they joined the villagers in digging drainage ditches through the night.

Of course, as they lent a hand, they also received plenty of kindness in return.

When they lost their way in the wilderness, a forest ranger who had steadfastly remained at his post showed them the way and took them aboard a marvelous high-altitude cable track through the mountains.

When they passed out from lack of water, a little lynx dragged them back home to treat them, using up the precious fresh water it had saved to survive.

But whether giving or receiving help, whenever someone asked why, they all gave the same simple answer:

Because we all drink from the same river, of course we should help one another and face things together.

In the end, they reached the destination of their journey and solved the mystery of where their hometown's water came from.
