Zhuang Qingyan was once the grandmaster of the Heartless Dao, with six renowned disciples guarding the four corners of the world.
Now he is a farmer in an unnamed mountain village. He has lost his memories, reclaimed fields, planted crops, and fed chickens.
The grass grows thick, the bean shoots sparse, but the old farmer has long since transcended the need for food.
Feeding chickens takes a careful touch. One careless move, and the beans could turn into soldiers.
The first disciple found Zhuang Qingyan, who had fallen into the mortal world, and dropped to his knees with tears in his eyes. "Master, your disciple has come too late!"
"Cluck, cluck, cluck-a-doodle-doo."
The old farmer stretched out a hand, and a flock of chickens came streaming out from behind him to peck at the rice.
The first disciple was struck as if by lightning.
The second disciple went through untold hardships to find him, only to see the aloof and otherworldly master scattering rice, while the handsome and dashing eldest senior brother sweated profusely in the fields.
That night, the second disciple's fox-demon instincts took over, and he could not resist sneaking off to eat two old hens. Zhuang Qingyan chased him around with a broom, beating him until he yelped.
Forced to make up for it by washing dishes and sweeping floors, he relived his childhood.
Old acquaintances kept turning up, and there were more and more strong backs to put to work...
His enemy, cloaked in murderous aura, arrived at the little courtyard and plunged a black iron greatsword into the ground, saying ominously:
"I've finally found you."
The courtyard was full of dead chickens.
The old farmer picked up a bamboo pole and beat him mercilessly, with the same strength as ever:
"Give me back my chickens!"
As he chopped firewood, the enemy asked strangely, "You really don't remember me?"
Zhuang Qingyan looked up. "Four disciples have already come, and three friends too. Which one are you?"
The enemy's gaze darkened. "Your Dao companion. I'm the first one, right?"
Zhuang Qingyan: ...
The honest farmer did not dare say a word.
A seemingly aloof, wooden shou who is actually adorably clueless × a gong who has been in love for years and has to work himself to the bone
