Three years after they parted, Sheng Can saw Liang Yue again at an elderly relative's funeral.
Everyone else knew Liang Yue as the good friend he'd grown up with. Only Sheng Can knew that Liang Yue was also... the ex-boyfriend who had broken up with him three years ago.
They had ended things on bad terms. Now that they were forced to meet, they were both painfully polite and distant.
Seated across the round table, Sheng Can studied Liang Yue from afar and noticed that his coat looked familiar.
It was the coat Sheng Can had given Liang Yue when they were madly in love.
Sheng Can lowered his eyes and thought that Liang Yue must have forgotten where the coat came from.
Liang Yue was the one who had dumped him. Why would he still be wearing a coat Sheng Can had bought for him?

After the funeral, Liang Yue hurried off to catch his flight.
Much later, someone noticed that he'd left his watch behind.
Their elders didn't know about the bad blood between them, so they asked Sheng Can to return the watch to Liang Yue.
Back home, Sheng Can stared at the watch for a long time before calling Liang Yue.
Liang Yue's flight should have already taken off by then, so no one ought to have answered. But the call connected almost immediately.
"Got it. I'll come back for it."
After saying that, Liang Yue hung up.
Soon, the doorbell rang.
Sheng Can went to answer it. Liang Yue stood outside, soaked through by the rain.
They stared at each other in silence. Liang Yue spoke first. "It's pouring outside. Can I use your bathroom to take a shower? I forgot my umbrella and I'm soaked."
After a moment's hesitation, Sheng Can stepped aside to let him in.
Liang Yue took a long time in the shower. By the time he came out, Sheng Can had fallen asleep on the sofa.
He looked down at Sheng Can for a while, then bent over and kissed him.
Sheng Can woke groggily and met his eyes.
The feeling was too familiar. His body was too familiar.
Before long, the two of them were tangled together.
Just then, the bedroom door opened, and a clear, childish voice called out:
"Daddy."
Liang Yue went rigid.
He slowly turned around and saw a little child with delicate, doll-like features and eyes just like Sheng Can's.
[Brooding top x sunny, straight bottom]
* One-to-one, both are each other's first and only, happy ending.
* The child isn't the bottom's. The way the child addresses him is just a misunderstanding.
* The protagonists appeared in the author's completed neighboring novel, Love at First Sight with a Rugged Country Boy. They were ten in that story; this one tells their story as adults.
