Because their pheromones were a 100% match, an A and an O got married.
They met because the A was an alliance general who was gravely wounded during a mission and needed the pheromones of an Omega with a 100% match to treat him.
The O was the person selected from the database.
The O had grown up in an orphanage, with no parents and no one to rely on. While treating the A, he always kept his fair, delicate face lowered and his hands clasped together, never once looking up at the A.
The A was already a staunch believer in pheromone compatibility. Seeing the O like that, he felt for him and asked if he wanted to marry him.
The O looked up in delight and answered carefully, "Yes."
After they married, they treated each other with respect and courtesy.
The O was a beautiful, delicate wife, frail in health but an excellent cook who kept the house running smoothly.
He was also very timid, afraid of thunder and heavy rain, so the A would drop his work and come home to keep him company whenever it rained.
They were very compatible in bed, too. After all, they were a 100% match.
The A did sometimes think the O's reflexes were beyond ordinary, such as when the O always managed to snatch a spoon from the air as it fell off the table.
But that didn't affect their peaceful, stable life.
Until one day, the alliance received reliable intelligence that a rebel organization would break into an office that night to steal classified information.
The alliance sent the A to lie in wait. When something stirred by the window, he quickly drew his gun and looked over.
The intruder was his timid O wife, who should have been at home cooking.
When the O saw the A aiming a gun at him, he tucked his hands behind his back, looking flustered and nervous. "Honey, I'm scared..."
The A sneered. "Put away the gun behind your back before you talk."
The O's expression shifted. The next second, he quickly drew his gun and faced off against the A.
Their two pairs of cold eyes met, neither giving way.
Then came two gunshots.

The O woke up in the organization's hospital, a bandage covering the back of his neck. He had turned back into a B.
That's right, he had been a B all along, an organization pheromone researcher.
A year ago, he had developed artificial pheromones that could let people switch between A, B, and O.
The organization had him test the technology first. He fabricated O pheromones that were a perfect match for the A, then sent him to the A as a spy.
Unfortunately, the mission failed, and the A shot him.
But the A, whose marksmanship had always been excellent, had somehow missed this time. B hadn't expected to survive.
B turned on the television in his hospital room. The news was reporting that the A had been injured.
Someone from the organization came to visit B in his room, or rather, to interrogate him.
"You're one of the organization's star marksmen. Why did the A survive when you had him in your sights?"
B watched the A on television and lowered his eyes to touch the base of the ring finger that should have had his wedding band on it. He didn't answer.

After discovering the organization's conspiracy, B escaped on his own.
Then the A caught him.
When the A and B met again, the A discovered four things.
First, his wife wasn't an O at all. He was a B, and the 100% compatibility was a lie.
Second, his wife couldn't cook at all. All the meals he'd eaten had been prepared by B's subordinates.
Third, his delicate wife wasn't delicate in the least. He knew grappling, hand-to-hand combat, and all kinds of other skills, and his shooting was no less accurate than the A's.
B ran, the A chased, and the two fought their way onto the bed, from headboard to footboard. But because of their difference in size, B was at a slight disadvantage, so the A pinned him down and took him.
They would start fighting again in the middle of sex, then start having sex again in the middle of fighting.
Then the A discovered the fourth thing:
A 100% pheromone match wasn't necessary for marriage. B felt wonderful, too.
An A and a B could fall in love with each other as well.
[Bonus Scene]
Much later.
B noticed that the A always liked kissing his lower abdomen during sex, and when they were doing it, he would force B's hand onto his stomach.
B's voice broke apart. "I... don't have a reproductive cavity. I can't have children."
A: "Then what am I supposed to do? My wife was supposed to be an O. How are you going to make it up to me?"
