Ning Hanxiao fell for Chu Jinghong at first sight, when he saw the Chu prince held hostage in Ning's kingdom.
Chu Jinghong was beautiful, beautiful enough to attract the covetous attention of many. So Ning Hanxiao locked him away. Only he was allowed to look at his wife.
But Ning Hanxiao had one problem that troubled him greatly: Chu Jinghong had no intention of becoming his empress.
Meanwhile, his half-brother, Prince Zhao, was plotting to seize the throne. Ning Hanxiao's plan was flawless: hide Chu Jinghong away, then fake his own death and wipe out his brother's subordinates in one fell swoop.
As expected, something unexpected happened. Prince Zhao found Chu Jinghong.
What finally killed Ning Hanxiao was the poison Chu Jinghong personally delivered.
Ning Hanxiao asked in anguish, "Was there ever a moment when you were happy by my side?"
Chu Jinghong: "Never."
Ning Hanxiao had barely died when Prince Zhao set his sights on Chu Jinghong. "Jinghong, my brother and I were born of the same mother. We look six or seven parts alike. If you treated me as though I were him, I wouldn't mind."
