In the late summer of 1998, Chen Lian, still a university student, suddenly received a letter from home saying his mother was critically ill.

Worried sick, he boarded an overnight train home.

But when he arrived, he realized his mother's critical condition was a lie. They were trying to force him to marry.

Chen Lian refused to give in. He tried to escape several times, but was stopped every time.

He struggled and fought back, but in the end, he could not overcome the deeply rooted fate laid out for him. He was forced to accept a marriage he had never wanted.

The years flew by without a trace. The young man who had once been determined to escape ultimately stayed in his hometown.

He put down roots in the countryside, building roads and bridges, developing agriculture and supporting local businesses. He devoted half his life to leading his hometown out of poverty and toward prosperity, growing from a callow student into a respected community leader.

At last, in 2021, Chen Lian finally got to see the Great Wall, years later than he had hoped.

On the Great Wall, stretching for thousands of miles, the wind swept across the mountains. He looked up, his heart awash with emotion.

Basically, it's a story about a man who returns to his hometown and leads it out of poverty. (Scratches head)

The story opens in 1998. The male lead is 22, and the female lead is 20.
