Synopsis [2026.5.23]:
During a famine, Yu Man's family sold her to a broker for two sacks of coarse flour so their only son could survive.
Because of her striking looks, she was sold from one household to another until she ended up in a wealthy family. She had no idea they had bought her to become the bride of their bedridden, simple-minded young master, in the hope that marriage would bring him good fortune.
Perhaps they hoped the wedding would help the young master live a little longer, because they held an especially lavish ceremony. Somehow, they found a man to perform the wedding rites with her before the family elders.
Yu Man did not care. After that day, she would be the young master's wife in name.
Sadly, fate had other plans. Less than a year later, the simple-minded young master passed away.
Fortunately, everyone had seen how attentively and considerately Yu Man had cared for him that year. After the funeral, they did not drive her out of the residence and even let her stay in her original quarters.
One day, the mysterious young uncle of the household suddenly stepped into Yu Man's courtyard. Dressed in a black robe, with a languid look in his eyes, he opened with a question that made her heart tighten:
"Sister-in-law, do you know who the man you took your wedding vows with that day really was?"
