When Sleepy was four, she was digging around in her own little vegetable patch and unearthed a book called "The Little Spirit Guidebook." The little spirits in the book told her that with them around, her vegetable patch could become even better.
The ambitious little spirits were thrilled and ready to make it big and reach new heights!
Sleepy had no idea what they were talking about. She only knew that these little spirits were such troublemakers, even worse than she was! They were nothing like the little spirits in "Adventures with the Little Spirits"!
The first little spirit: An earth spirit who has lived for three hundred years. He's good at loosening soil and is convinced that tractors are gods of tilling. Every day, he goes to a tractor and bows to it three times.
The second little spirit: A dew spirit who waters with pinpoint accuracy, but always skips work on bright moonlit nights to play on leaves like they're slides.
The third little spirit: A tomato spirit who makes fruit sweeter and more plentiful, but loves to steal snacks and eats so much he can't fly.
Sleepy sternly corrects the little spirits, and they bow their heads and admit their mistakes. The moment Sleepy goes to drink her milk, they go right back to making trouble.
Later, Sleepy's little vegetable patch isn't big enough to grow everything, so the little spirits head to a farm to "help out."
Giant strawberries, cabbages that lift your spirits when you eat them, tomatoes that look like they're from a cartoon...
Later still, all sorts of strange visitors start showing up at the farm:
An insomniac young woman, an uncle who's always losing his temper, a grandfather who's lost his smile...
When they leave, they say there's magic here that can heal them.
Sleepy is chasing the tomato spirit that's stealing food in the field. She turns around at their words, completely bewildered.
Magic?
The little farm owner doesn't know what magic is, or what it means to heal. She just invites her good friends to eat the food she likes.
