Cassian means "shining treasure," a gift from heaven.

Cassian lies in his father's strong, broad arms, listening as his dad explains how he got his name.

He loves the name. So even when he later travels through many worlds and takes on many names and identities, he is always Cassian. The name is branded on his soul.

Before he turned six, Cassian was innocent, carefree, and spoiled. His father built a strong enough wall around him that all he had to do was say what he wanted, and it was his.

After his birthday, he begs his father to take him to an amusement park. His dad has been so busy lately that he never has time for him, and Cassian is unhappy. His father agrees, and Cassian is happy.

But halfway through the visit, the crowd suddenly turns chaotic. A green-haired clown is laughing loudly. Cassian decides he'll hate clowns from now on.

His father takes him to a small room, hands him a piece of candy, and tells him not to wander off. "Cassian, let's play a game. Count to three thousand, and Daddy will come get you." Cassian obediently nods. He likes games.

But after he finishes counting, everything goes dark. He appears in a trash heap, and an unfamiliar voice speaks in his mind.

At nine, Cassian is in Meteor City, a place so cruel that even the word "cruel" falls short. He is cautious, hateful, and numb. Why was he chosen to save others? Who will come save him? He has lost everything.

The System says he can go home once he completes the missions. Home... He wants to go home.

At fourteen, Cassian wants revenge on the world. That trash System, that trash Dazai, that trash Mafia, let it all burn. But when he looks into a pair of cobalt-blue eyes faintly like the ones in his memories, and at... a friend? Forget it. This isn't so bad.

After rewriting everything, Cassian lets the blood flow from his wounds and slowly heal, glancing toward the horizon. "Bruce, when are you coming to get me?"

At sixteen, Cassian attends a technical college in the new world. After thinking about it carefully, he wonders if he's the least educated member of the Wayne family.

He learns to let things go and stop tearing himself apart. Rather than destroy himself, he can destroy the orange. He can mess around with two giant gorillas. Run away? Not a chance. Cassian smiles at the scene before him, dark energy spilling from behind him. Brain matter, of course it's great grilled. Spend enough time with Dazai, and the plot practically writes itself.

After graduating from technical college, Cassian works hard to improve his qualifications and gets into a police academy, handing out a few death flags along the way.
