Mr. Yan passed away at the age of 108. Before his death, she had the good fortune to visit him for an interview.
The old man was gentle and unassuming, with a calm, refined air. His hand trembling slightly, he took out an old black-and-white photograph and pointed to the woman in it. In a soft voice, he said she looked a lot like the woman in the picture.
She was his betrothed, though they had never married: a fallen young lady from the Republican era.
In the end, their bond came to nothing. The young woman fell in love with the opera singer Yun Sheng and left him behind.
Yun Sheng's real name was Shen Hu.
And, as it happened, she had an old photograph of Shen Hu hidden away.
In the photograph, a man wore a long gown beneath a white coat, a pocket watch chain fastened to his left breast. He looked back over his shoulder as smoke from gunfire filled the street.
No one knew where his gaze fell. A faint smile touched his profile; one half of his face was bathed in light, the other lost in shadow.
This was Shen Hu's posthumous photograph.
In the eighth year of the Republic, he was a celebrated opera singer, his water sleeves fluttering as he deliberately entered her world.
In the ninth year of the Republic, he was a battlefield medic, bringing peace amid countless dangers.

A few things to know:
The Xu household is very traditional, so the story has an old-fashioned feel at first. The female lead is cheerful and mischievous, and the story is fairly lighthearted. I don't accept writing advice, but comments and chat are welcome!

When will the author come back [Hold my thighs]
Come on, author, the writing is good, but the front part may be a bit confusing, and I couldn't understand it at first.
