Returning Fluff
Ming Feixu is an utterly ordinary worker at the transmigration-into-a-book bureau.
After being set up, Ming Feixu is sent to a domineering hero's tiny world, the kind not even a dog would visit, and becomes a mediocre, doomed extra.
Luckily, the randomly assigned System gives him the role of a sidekick to the domineering male lead, Ji Xunshuang.
Ming Feixu cheerfully gets to work, following the male lead and focusing on fighting monsters, leveling up, and moving the plot along.
The male lead is so impressive that in just a few years he becomes the leader of the righteous path, letting Ming Feixu retire a hundred years early.
Ming Feixu is delighted, until the System reports that the neighboring world is about to collapse and urgently calls for help.
With the plot at its end, Ming Feixu looks at Ji Xunshuang on the high dais, officially taking up the position of Immortal Chief, and decides he can't abandon a colleague in need.
On the day Ji Xunshuang takes office as Immortal Chief, the demons attack Yutai.
The Demon Lord captures the Immortal Chief's unbonded Dao companion in the midst of battle, kills him in front of everyone, then tosses aside the corpse and flees with arrogant abandon.
The usually noble Immortal Chief loses his mind. He clutches the body and kneels at Yutai for three days, trying every means he can, yet can't obtain even a single spirit pill from the righteous sects.
In the end, he can only watch the person he loves most lose both body and soul.

After a lot of trouble, Ming Feixu finally gets the neighboring world, on the brink of collapse, back on track. After saying goodbye to his colleague, he happily takes on a new identity and prepares to visit his own world, hoping to see what great deeds the male lead has accomplished since he left.
But after traveling the mortal world, he doesn't hear a single word of praise for Ji Xunshuang, the Immortal Chief.
Instead, he keeps hearing about the new Demon Lord, who fell from immortality for the sake of his dead husband, slaughtered the Demon Palace, and butchered three armies.
Ming Feixu isn't too happy about that. He has a grudge against the old Demon Lord, so he wants to visit the demon realm, see if he can finish the job and whip the corpse for good measure, and look for news of Ji Xunshuang while he's at it.
But he runs into turmoil at the border. While protecting the refugees, he's captured by a powerful demon, taken to the demon capital, and sent to the Demon Lord's chambers as a furnace cauldron.
Ming Feixu hides a dagger in his sleeve. When the Demon Lord enters the hall, he presses the blade to his throat and says fiercely, "So you're the Demon Lord? We need to talk. If you don't want to die, let those mortals go."
The new Demon Lord says nothing for a long time. His fingers are so limp he can't even form the simplest defensive spell, and he lets the blade sink into his flesh.
Ming Feixu senses something is wrong. He looks up and meets Ji Xunshuang's blood-red eyes.
"..."
Something's not right.
A flood of memories flashes through his mind, from the years he spent by Ji Xunshuang's side, getting to know one another beneath the flowers and moonlight,
to the night before Ji Xunshuang ascended to Immortal Chief, when he got drunk and kissed Ming Feixu in a daze.
A flash of inspiration strikes, and the System chimes, "Bingo!"
"Congratulations, you've unlocked a hidden side quest: Marry the Domineering Hero."
Ming Feixu: "..."
😲😰😱😥
Wasn't I your brother?
Reader's Guide:
1. The original novel has no romance. The top and bottom are each other's first love and only love, body and soul. No breaking them up, no role reversal, no self-insert fantasies, and no extreme character favoritism.
2. There may be secondary couples and scenes involving infidelity. Please don't read if that's not for you.
3. The bottom is a bit slow to catch on, but not stupid. The top starts out so righteous it's practically supernatural, then becomes a gloomy, possessive widower.
4. The bottom is not weak.
Theme: When you look back, the one you seek is there, where the lantern lights are dim.
