Where the Wind Sleeps [Marriage First, Love Later | Childhood Friends | Taking by Force | Brooding, Ghostly Man | Devoted Loyal Dog | Two Children in Three Years | Spectacular Love Polygon | The "You're Getting Married, But I'm Not the Groom" Trope]
Zhu Fengmian was betrothed by imperial decree at seventeen. Over the years, he had four husbands.
His first husband was the great general of the empire: gentle, considerate, upright, and wonderful to him. He was Zhu Fengmian's first love, and the two fell for each other soon after they married.
Later, the great general died in battle at the border. Zhu Fengmian's second husband was the young chancellor who had grown up with him as a childhood friend. He was gifted and ambitious, but always did strange things that left Zhu Fengmian dumbfounded.
As for the third husband, he was the Crown Prince, the older brother who had always looked after Zhu Fengmian ever since he was sent to the capital as a hostage at the age of five. After ascending the throne, the Crown Prince became rather moody, but that did nothing to diminish their affection. He even wanted to have children with Zhu Fengmian and make him empress.
The last husband was his loyal secret guard, who had often stayed by his side in their youth, then vanished after accompanying the general on a campaign. Zhu Fengmian finally found him shortly before becoming empress, and he relied on him deeply.
Between the ages of seventeen and twenty-two, Zhu Fengmian changed husbands four times and had two adorable children.
Then, on the day his younger son turned one, the door to Zhu Fengmian's residence was thrown open.
At the time, he was in his second husband's arms, looking over the birthday banquet's guest list. His third husband was beside them, reviewing memorials, while his fourth husband was in the courtyard teaching the children martial arts.
His first husband, who had been dead for three years, stood in the doorway, ragged and travel-worn. Gripping the doorframe, he stared at the scene in the courtyard, his eyes bloodshot and his face flushed with fury.
"...Husband, how are you alive?"
Shou: A gentle, radiant, delicate beauty, the most beautiful person in the whole book
Gong 1: A gentle, wolfish general
Gong 2: A scheming chancellor
Gong 3: A repressed, brooding Crown Prince
Gong 4: A devoted secret guard
A series of one-on-one relationships. I'm a simpleton who loves writing this stuff. The gongs are mostly not good people.
Theme: If our love is to last forever
