[Complete. The new novel next door, Little Joy of Spring, is now updating!]
"In my girlhood, you were the brightest name."

They met again at a class reunion.
When she pushed open the door, the man was leaning back in his chair, his eyes weary and indifferent, his hoodie only half-buttoned. He seemed uninterested in everything.
All evening, he didn't look at her or say a single word.
When the gathering ended, a sudden downpour began. Amid the quiet patter of rain, Wei Ni heard someone mention Wen Su's name.
She was silent for a long moment, then finally said softly,
"We aren't very close anymore."
Nobody knew that, later that night in her apartment, the man had braced one hand against the bar, trapping her in the narrow space between them.
Wei Ni instinctively tried to dodge, but her lower back was already pressed against the cold edge of the counter. She had nowhere left to retreat. Wen Su lowered his eyes to her, giving a low, breathy laugh, his gaze darkening.
"So you mean I'm the only one who's been thinking about you all these years?"
It was the winter of 2008. After facing each other across the road for fifty years, a boys' school and a girls' school with completely different styles merged overnight.
At the time, Wen Su was the pride of everyone, dazzling and bold, with a brilliant future ahead of him. She, meanwhile, was quiet and reserved, like a shadow in the corner, so inconspicuous she might almost disappear.
Wei Ni knew perfectly well that if the schools hadn't merged, she probably never would have had anything to do with Wen Su.
The boy had a happy family and excellent grades. During their three years as deskmates, she saw countless people approach him, but none of them stayed.
So she never crossed the line or tested the waters. She was careful to rein herself in even when she wanted to look at him for a moment longer.
On graduation day, Wen Su stood in the middle of the crowd. The midsummer breeze lifted the corner of his white shirt as people gathered around him. He seemed to shine all on his own.
Wei Ni couldn't help crouching down to cry.
Like most people, she was captivated by things that shone.
Because he was simply too dazzling.
Later, people recalled that the biggest news at the new No. 1 High School back then wasn't the merger of the boys' and girls' schools. It was that the well-behaved girl from the girls' school had knocked Wen Su from the top spot.
The whole school was saying, "There can't be two tigers on one mountain. Now those two are sworn enemies."
After all, they barely spoke a word to each other in their everyday lives. They were even more like strangers than actual strangers.
Until one night after the school anniversary celebrations, someone passing an empty classroom accidentally saw Wei Ni turn her head, about to kiss Wen Su as he slept on his desk.
A sliver of hallway light spilled in. She suddenly pulled away, pressed her lips together, turned, and ran.
Inside the classroom, Wen Su, who had supposedly been asleep, slowly straightened up and looked toward the person standing frozen outside the door.
"Did you have to come in right now?"
//
"Do you know? Someone as timid and slow to warm up as me needs others to take the initiative and respond a thousand times before I can believe it's real."
"No one can be happy forever, but being loved by you can make me happy forever."
[Reading Tips | Content Warnings]
* The school storyline takes up the largest share. In short, this is a slow-burn school romance.
* One-on-one romance / each other's first love / the heroine has a secret crush / reunion after a long separation / rekindled romance / ensemble cast
* Neither the heroine nor the hero is perfect. The heroine is introverted and very, very slow to warm up. Every plot point serves the heroine's growth. This is not a traditional face-slapping power fantasy. The characters have conflicting beliefs and each has things they cherish more. Not everyone is guaranteed their ideal ending, and not every relationship is guaranteed a happy reconciliation.

Women are expected to be perfect, but perfection itself is a kind of violence.
P.S. The story is set against the merger of a boys' school and a girls' school. Compared to students at coed schools, the girls' school students are more willing to take responsibility, because throughout their upbringing they've had to handle all kinds of things themselves. The women around me during my school years, from classmates to teachers, were all incredibly hardworking and capable. So I wanted to challenge some prejudices about female students, while also making sure the characters aren't absolutely perfect. The story deliberately avoids certain terms and does touch on related themes. It's not solely about the hero and heroine, so if that bothers you, feel free not to click in. :)

Theme: You shine so brightly
Why? He felt that staying would be a drag, so he left everyone to feel sad for him? Do you know how your mother is doing now? That makes me sad every time I mention him. He always chooses not to move, saying that if you come back, I can't do it. When he comes back, he sees only the good side of his mother. I know that his return will not improve my mother's life, but at least he does not make my mother unhappy. Let everyone be immersed in the pain of losing him.
I really thought that Xu Jiayi was dead, but the author brought it to life again. I'm really happy. I want to see two pairs of sub-CPs.
Wow, I wrote it very well. In addition to the main plot, I also like all the sub-CPs. If possible, I hope that the story of Xu Jiayi and Sheng Qiao, as well as the story of Chen Xichun and Gu Ziyu will be followed up.
Right, right? You have to meet your mother first to know what she is thinking. You think your mother has given up, but she definitely hasn't. Otherwise, she would have moved away a long time ago. Your mother has been waiting for you.
Hey, my mother will collapse and die if I go there, okay? 😭 😭 😭 😭
Is this boy dead? He also struggled with whether the boy had met someone who looked very similar to the boy, or whether he was not dead but just lost his memory.
Finished spreading flowers!! I hope Nini and other friends will always be happy ❤️
Mothers will never forget their children, and lovers will never forget their hearts. Don't give up on yourself so much.
Why? Still updated? This update is too little.
I would like to ask if this boy is not dead, why is he still staying there? Isn't he worried about his own parents? It seemed that his body had not been recovered at that time. Why don't you show up to so many people? This author read a book about the relationship between this dead boy and that girl. Why is it that they are together? Even though the girl didn't die, she also kissed her. Could it be that the girl didn't like him later or something happened? They must like each other. Talking about some stories that happened in it, I found that the author is really good at writing.
