Duan Xing x Duan Xiaohui (pretend incest)
Northwest volunteer teacher x real estate tycoon
Duan Xing was a boy born after his mother prayed for a son. He was a child no one had wanted.
After her husband died, his mother could not produce an heir. She prayed desperately for a son, then had an affair with a man, and finally gave birth to him.
Resentful of the constraints of feudal traditions, she dragged her own child into the suffering with her.
From the age of six, Duan Xing was made to have his feet bound alongside his mother's, grow his hair long, and wear floral skirts... As people went on and on at him day and night, he learned how to serve men.
When there was no rice or flour at home, his mother dragged him from door to door to beg with a smile, only to receive leftovers barely better than slop.
Clutching his battered little bowl, Duan Xing raised his eyes and caught sight of someone behind the village chief. He instinctively looked away.
Only at night would he finally work up the courage to go over and whisper, "Big brother... my feet hurt."
Duan Xiaohui was a late-born son, the apple of the village chief's eye.
But only he knew that he, too, was a bastard born of an affair.
Ever since he found a greedy little field rat one night and met those pitiful eyes, he had been unable to stop himself.
He stepped closer and crouched down, teasingly sweeping the boy's hair behind his ear. "Call me something sweet, and I won't hit you."
Having been beaten by his mother until he was terrified, Duan Xing felt the hand against his cheek and tried to please him by nuzzling it.
When he saw his feet freed and hot food set out for him, he obediently did as he was told and sold himself on the spot.
When locusts ravaged the village, Duan Xiaohui didn't stop to worry about his parents. He grabbed Duan Xing and ran.
They ran until his leg was lame, and even when they were bleeding, they kept fleeing that cannibalistic Duan Family Village.
That run lasted twelve years.
Duan Xiaohui made a name for himself in the city, building an empire in the booming south. By playing the black market at its own game, he became the biggest name in real estate.
People in their circles all said he was a cripple, twisted in the head, and that was why he was so ruthless and heartless.
But the shipments of supplies sent to the Northwest, one after another, and the Hope Primary Schools rising from the ground were proof that was not true.
When the mission in the borderlands of the Northwest came to an end, a beautiful young man appeared at the airport and smiled as he threw himself into someone's arms.
Everyone said he was Mr. Duan's kept canary, hidden away from the world.
But no one knew that this aloof, powerful man carefully waited on him at night.
Duan Xing changed into a white dress, his long hair falling loose. Just like when he was a child, he curled up in the man's arms. "Big brother... I'm so tired from teaching. My feet hurt."
The man rested a hand on the round swell of his belly. "And the baby in there? Is the little one giving you trouble?"
Duan Xing looked up, his voice softening. "The baby isn't, but big brother... I want to give you trouble."
Reader's guide (please read):
1. The little one has gender dysphoria and can give birth, but won't actually have his feet bound. Duan Xiaohui's inspiration came from Gong Li's film Ju Dou.
2. Life gets rough. This is a bittersweet story of working hard to get by. They are really poor at first, picking through trash, wandering around, sleeping in greenhouses, and getting beaten. Poor, poor, poor...
3. Childhood and adulthood each take up half the story.
4. The early part is set in the Northwest during a bygone era. I'm not sure if mentioning feudal customs will be poorly received or get me criticized. Women suffering under feudal oppression and becoming twisted inside, unable to escape even when they want to, is a tragic thing. That's why the story later includes aid and volunteer teaching in the Northwest, to free people's minds. The theme is positive. If this isn't for you, feel free not to read it. There are plenty of other stories out there to suit your taste.
5. No extreme tops or fans who only support the bottom.
