I Can Hear What Plants Are Thinking

Jiang Yu, a humble agricultural university student, worked through the night revising his thesis and died suddenly, only to transmigrate to the future.

This is a world ravaged by pollution. The environment has changed drastically, food is scarce, and humanity is divided into ordinary people and ability users. Every day, they fight mutated plants and animals to the death for resources.

When he arrived, he was trapped deep in a desolate forest with a team that had ventured outside. Mutated vines whipped around like iron chains, binding everyone tight. Their barbs tore through clothing, and it looked as if they would either be strangled or stabbed to death.

On the brink of death, Jiang Yu heard a voice:

"Damn humans! That's what you get for freezing my butt! Don't you know how much we hate the cold?! I'll strangle you all, I will!"

Summoning his last bit of strength, Jiang Yu shouted, "Captain, move your weapon away from the vine's tuber!"

The captain hesitated, but did as he was told.

The vine slowly loosened its grip on them.

The captain: !!!

Jiang Yu was then identified as a plant-type ability user. But while everyone else had combat abilities such as control and manipulation, his only ability was to understand what plants were thinking.

A plant: "That bug's been bothering me for ages. Give me a scratch!"

Suppressing his fear, Jiang Yu reached out and brushed away the fist-sized bug beneath the leaves, its entire body covered in mouthparts. Then he scratched the plant for it.

The plant: "Ah, that feels good~ Kid, here's a fruit as a reward. Come again next time~"

The plant spat out a red fruit that could replenish stamina and restore mental energy.

The Research Institute: A whole new world!

And so Jiang Yu diligently went back to being an agricultural university student in this other world. Every day, he watered plants with specially formulated, highly alkaline nutrient solution, picked bugs off them, bathed them, found them mates, and soothed them through sensitive pregnancies...

He didn't just do the work himself, either. He kept records, and one paper after another made its way to the top academic journals of the various bases.

Jiang Yu wept bitterly: "Advisor, I got published in the journals you never managed to get into!"

He brings the spirit of agricultural university to the other world. The love interest is the team captain from the beginning, but romance plays a relatively minor role. Farming is the main focus.

Theme: People should be self-reliant and stand on their own.
