[Older adoptive father top x beautiful young heir bottom]
Yu Zhiyan is the sixth son of the Marquis's eldest branch.
Because he wasn't very bright, his parents left him at the marquis's estate when they went to the frontier with his older brother.
They never expected to be gone for eight years without a word. While the second and third branches busied themselves dividing up the family fortune, no one looked after Yu Zhiyan, and his relatives' children often bullied him.
Then someone shoved him into a pond, nearly drowning him. Suddenly, Yu Zhiyan had a flash of inspiration. Soaked to the skin, he crawled over to the neighboring estate.
A kind, beautiful man lived next door. He had once given Yu Zhiyan pastries when the boy crawled through the dog flap.
Duan Xueqiao had been made a prince for his military achievements, but someone close to him schemed against him, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. Proud and arrogant, he dismissed all his servants and decided to take his own life.
He had just picked up a knife when someone knelt beside him, a tiny, scrawny bundle of a child with skin stretched over bones and a pair of huge, pitch-black eyes.
When the child saw him look over, he dropped to his knees with a thump.
"My adoptive father, please accept this child's bow!"
Duan Xueqiao: Who's this kid?
From then on, Yu Zhiyan became the young heir of the Duan estate and Duan Xueqiao's adopted son.
Duan Xueqiao was only nine years older than Yu Zhiyan, but he raised him as his own child, turning a skinny little stick into a soft, round rice cake, fair and rosy-cheeked.
Not only did he nurse Yu Zhiyan back to health, he also helped him go from timid and meek to lively and spoiled.
And he became especially talkative:
"Adoptive father, this osmanthus cake is delicious. You should try some."
"Adoptive father, this lantern is so pretty. Hold it for me."
"Adoptive father, can you stand up and lift me high? The other kids' dads all do it!"
Duan Xueqiao, sitting in his wheelchair: ?!
*
A few years passed like this, until Yu Zhiyan noticed that his adoptive father had suddenly changed.
He no longer let Yu Zhiyan snuggle up with him in bed every night.
He wouldn't let him into his room anymore, and even scolded him for entering without knocking.
A young heir Yu Zhiyan was close to told him that they weren't related by blood, and if the prince married and had children one day, he wouldn't want Yu Zhiyan anymore.
Thinking of his own dozen or so siblings, Yu Zhiyan, who had never been favored, turned pale with fright.
After doing his research, he donned a sheer robe, stumbled through a seductive routine he had learned God knew where, and sat on his adoptive father's lap.
"Adoptive father, you can't abandon me..."
Duan Xueqiao's veins bulged. He kept his voice low and snapped, "Do you know what you're doing?"
Yu Zhiyan failed to seduce him and got a severe punishment from his adoptive father, along with a long lecture.
He vaguely understood two things:
His adoptive father wasn't into men, so he couldn't become his husband; if his adoptive father didn't marry, he would always treat Yu Zhiyan well.
With that assurance, he finally relaxed and obediently admitted his mistake. "Adoptive father, I know I was wrong."
But after that, Duan Xueqiao started acting strangely. His dreams were full of Yu Zhiyan being bullied, the corners of his eyes red, pitifully calling out his name.
The next day, he coldly cleaned up the mess, took an assignment away from home that very day, and left his return date uncertain.
But when he returned from his tour of inspection, he unexpectedly caught another young heir making a grand confession to Yu Zhiyan. Worse, plenty of others were also openly or secretly coveting him, and some even asked Duan Xueqiao to put in a good word for them.
Duan Xueqiao sneered and tore every marriage proposal to shreds.
That night, the main residence of the prince's estate kept its lights on until morning.
Yu Zhiyan was close to tears. "Adoptive father, I really know I was wrong..."

Oh No!! I Mistook My Uncle for My Little Uncle!
[Bratty young wastrel x older, stern, fatherly king]
After his parents divorced, Wei Zhi's corrupt official father went on a rampage, amassing wealth and getting the whole family sentenced to exile.
The young master of the Wei family had been pampered in the capital since childhood and had never suffered hardship. Just thinking about the bitterly cold land of exile made his face turn pale. He immediately packed his things and headed for his little uncle, who lived far away at the border. His maternal grandfather's family had guarded the frontier for generations, with fiefs and stipends to their name. He could still live like a spoiled young wastrel and enjoy the finer things in life.
After getting lost and battling sandstorms, Wei Zhi finally reached the frontier. There he saw a great king surrounded by people. Matching him against the letters, nine feet tall, handsome, and incomparably noble, Wei Zhi decided it had to be his little uncle!
He immediately dropped to his knees and clung to his little uncle's leg.
"Little Uncle, it's me!"
King of Beimo Wulan Jue was inspecting his territory when a young master caught his eye along the way. He had peach-blossom eyes and a hibiscus-like face, fair and delicate, clearly someone who had never suffered hardship.
Looking at the boy clinging to his leg, Wulan Jue suddenly felt amused and played along with the act of being a loving uncle.
A new young master had arrived at the Beimo royal palace. He was noble and spoiled, so pampered he even dared to boss the King of Beimo around. What a tyrant.
Wei Zhi didn't think much of it. "This is what they mean by staying cool in the shade of your uncle."
The palace servants exchanged bewildered glances. But... the king's relatives had all been killed when he seized the throne?
To get along with his little uncle, Wei Zhi stuck to him all day. Whenever his little uncle fretted over state affairs, Wei Zhi would tear his opponent to shreds.
"The King of Beimo is cruel and violent. He's nowhere near as good as you, Little Uncle."
"The King of Beimo is ugly, with a blue face, fangs, and a face full of fat. He's nowhere near as handsome as you, Little Uncle. Besides, he's old. He can't possibly be your match!"
Wei Zhi praised one while putting the other down, but his little uncle didn't look any happier. Instead, his expression grew even stranger. "Oh?"
He casually wrapped an arm around Wei Zhi's waist, his expression unreadable. "Do you hate him that much?"
Wei Zhi immediately made his position clear. "Yes! I'm on your side, Little Uncle."
Clinging to his little uncle was Wei Zhi's top priority. Thanks to his persistence, his little uncle treated him wonderfully, feeding him grapes, washing his face and feet, and personally tending to his every need. Every day, he held Wei Zhi as they slept in the same bed.
Apart from the mosquitoes in the palace, there wasn't much to complain about.
Then one day, when he went out, masked men kidnapped him. Just as he was threatening them and invoking his uncle's name, the man across from him pulled off his mask and gave him a knock on the head.
"Idiot, I'm your uncle!"
Wei Zhi stared in shock. If this was his little uncle, then the one he'd been provoking lately was...
He turned around stiffly, only to see the man who'd always indulged him finally reveal his true, cruel and obsessive nature. Staring at their joined hands, he said darkly, "Give me back my man."
Wei Zhi: I'm really doomed this time ꒦ິ^꒦ິ
