The Prince Consort Wants a Divorce

Scholar from a humble family x eldest legitimate princess + political intrigue and tragic romance + marriage before love + mutual protection + rekindled love

Shen Mo, born to a poor family, entered government through the imperial examinations and rose to become Minister of the Court of Judicial Review. He married Zhao Mingyi, the most exalted princess in the empire.

He investigated cases with a blade-sharp mind, but was gentle and reserved with her, hiding his love deep in his heart and never daring to speak of it.

That is, until he glimpsed the shocking secret of the Second Prince's rebellion in the records of a smuggling case, and discovered that the princess's maternal family was implicated as well.

To protect her, he personally handed her a divorce agreement, severing their relationship on the grounds that their temperaments were incompatible. He even frequented brothels to ruin his reputation and cement his name as a faithless husband.

The princess could only assume that his contempt stemmed from her failure to conceive. She clumsily learned to cook and tried to improve her health, only to be met with an increasingly cold back as he turned away.

Heartbroken, she accidentally found a copy of the evidence hidden in a hollow behind the bookshelf. Only then did she realize that the absurd divorce had been his desperate attempt to protect her, even at the cost of his life.

At the Mid-Autumn Palace Banquet, a coup suddenly erupted, and the Second Prince took her hostage to threaten Shen Mo.

As a sword swung toward the princess, Shen Mo shielded her without hesitation. At the moment blood stained his official robes, he spoke in a hoarse voice: "Your Highness, I never wanted to divorce you."
