She pushed open the door and accidentally saw nine fluffy white fox tails unfurling in the moonlight. Liu Manshu was curled up in the corner of the bed, her eyes red-rimmed and her whole body burning hot.

Ruan Tang's mind went blank. Her fingers instinctively stroked the tip of the nearest tail.

At the warm, soft touch, Liu Manshu shuddered violently and looked up at her, her eyes misty with tears and her voice trembling beyond control. "Don't... don't touch Mom's tail."

Only later did Ruan Tang learn that a fox's tail was the most private and forbidden part of its body. Stroking one was no different from marking it.

Liu Manshu had cultivated for a thousand years, and every month she endured her fox heat alone. She searched the Three Realms, but only her daughter-in-law's touch could instantly soothe her restlessness.

Perhaps to earn her elder's approval, and perhaps because of a concern she couldn't quite name, Ruan Tang agreed.

From then on, every full moon night, she would enter her mother-in-law's room and gently comb her fingers through the fluffy tail fur, watching the woman melt into a puddle in her arms.

As they spent their days and nights together, their scents mingled.

The Beta who had once been utterly ordinary unexpectedly awakened as a top-tier Alpha, transformed by the fox demon's pheromones.

Seeing Liu Manshu nuzzle against her neck, so dependent on her, Ruan Tang panicked and packed her things that very night, ready to run.

The moment she opened the door, a soft fox tail coiled around her waist and dragged her back inside.

The beautiful fox demon pinned her against the door, several tails encircling her. She brushed the tip of her nose against Ruan Tang's neck and spoke in a husky, seductive voice:

Ruan Tang was burning all over, but still tried to hold her ground as she pushed Liu Manshu away. "Liu Manshu! I only think of you as my mom. You... you... don't come any closer!"

Liu Manshu gave a low laugh and sealed her lips with a kiss.

A tail tip hooked around Ruan Tang's wrist and pressed her hand against Liu Manshu's tail.

That night, Ruan Tang was buried in a heap of fluffy, soft fox tails, her lips and teeth tinged with a cool, sweet fragrance.

In the morning, Liu Manshu held Ruan Tang's wet hand, lowered her head to bite her earlobe, and spoke with gentle affection:

"Tangtang, touch Mom's tail one more time, okay?"

Note:

1. There is no romantic development while they remain mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
