Synopsis
You might not believe this, but lately, I think I've been able to understand animals when they talk.
My name is Shi Jie. After observing them, I've figured out how to communicate with animals.
On a forum I created myself, I can even earn tips from them after completing the help requests they post.
I'm strong, tough, warmhearted, and know a bit of taekwondo. I've won the world sanda championship, and I earned double degrees in medicine and law at university.
To indulge my hero complex, I set up an online forum called Wanshiba.
From people in their nineties to crying babies, from dangerous situations to the most trivial matters, as long as someone posts a help request on my forum, I'll assess how urgent it is and head over to solve the problem.
I'm just a bit rigid and don't really understand the internet. Otherwise, how could I have run the forum for three months without getting a single customer?
While waiting for my business to take off, I kept busy with other things.
I look good and have a tall figure, so when directors need an extra, they'll often ask me to come by for a bit part and earn some pocket money.
But my face is too cold, and I can't manage exaggerated expressions. When I'm reciting lines, though, I can be very expressive.
A director said it was unusual that I could deliver such lovely lines with a straight face, and recommended me for part-time voice work in GL audio dramas.
Luckily, my voice is decent, so somehow I ended up with another source of income.
And so my side hustles flourished, while my main business went nowhere.
Then this afternoon, I was walking home from the recording studio when a size 43 foot kicked me right off my feet. When I rubbed my eyes and looked at the culprit, I found it was a tuxedo cat.
It looked down at me haughtily, one paw still fidgeting with something on the ground. I took a closer look and saw it was the new phone I'd saved for three months to buy.
Me: ...
Chief Black Cat, you can't break the law when you know it so well. Hand over the hostage, right now.
The tuxedo cat seemed to understand what I was thinking. It raised a white-gloved paw and, with a golf swing, smacked my phone right over to me.
Nice shot.
I picked up my phone, twitching my mouth, and ambled home. I didn't dare go up and pet the officer's black fur.
After I got home, my phone suddenly chimed with a notification sound I'd never heard before: "Ding ding."
Puzzled, I checked which app was mooing. To my surprise, it was Wanshiba, the forum I'd developed.
Wanshiba was incredibly excited. It had finally welcomed its first visitor.
I was happy for Wanshiba too, and excitedly tapped the little red dot on the forum to read the client's request carefully:
Fu Bao Can't Get Enough:
[My dear kitty's mother's fourth aunt and grandpa! Emergency! I found a thief!!! That despicable thief has been stealing my meat cans for days, and now they're even coming to steal the human I raised! Somebody help me! I'm willing to tip 200 Wanshi coins!]
On my forum, one Wanshi coin is equivalent to one yuan.
I couldn't possibly turn down 200 yuan for my main business's first earnings.
The client's wording was rather cute and silly, like she was imitating a cat. She was trying out a new kind of roleplay, and I understood and respected that.
After accepting the job, I sent the client a private message:
Beautiful Life:
"Hi there! Could you provide your exact address? I've accepted the job, and I'll definitely help you catch the thief."
Fu Bao Can't Get Enough:
"I live at Room 202, Unit 2, Building 1, Xingfu Residential Community."
Fu Bao Can't Get Enough:
"Come save me! I can smell that thief again!"
When I saw the address the client had given me, I froze. That almost never happened to me.
I lived at Room 201, Unit 2, Building 1, Xingfu Residential Community, directly across from 202.
So my first client... was actually my next-door neighbor?
The curly-haired beauty with the gold-rimmed glasses?
