Pu Lin was a little merfolk. He loved watching the aurora, chasing waves, and teasing the orcas in the ocean. When he got hot, he drifted to Antarctica; when he got cold, he swam to the equator. He lived a carefree life in the sea.
One day, he found a brick.
The curious little merfolk poked its smooth surface with his webbed hand, and the black brick lit up at once.
There was only one strange icon inside.
The little merfolk kept poking it
The icon suddenly unfolded!
Pu Lin: !
Just as he was at a loss for what to do, a little animal that popped out of the brick caught his attention.
A teal dragon with a pair of blunt little horns tucked its claws neatly beneath itself, gazing at the screen with big, innocent, watery eyes.
"..."
Looking at the little teal tail, the merfolk lay by the shore and pondered for a moment. Then he looked at his own raised fish tail, and his eyes lit up.
This had to be a fellow of his kind he'd never met before!
The little merfolk shook the brick. He just didn't know why the little one's home was so small... But since he was an adult fish, he naturally had to take on the responsibility of caring for a young one.
Little Dan Feng had recently noticed some strange things happening around him.
There were voices no one else could hear, food mysteriously appearing on the table, and all sorts of strange toys
As he watched the dragon master suddenly get sent flying, he fell into an odd silence.
Some year, some month
Pu Lin was still worrying about his little one's ability to make friends when he suddenly realized that the little one had quietly done something huge.
He counted them one by one: a fluffy little one, a smiley little one, a chilly little one, hmm? Was this one even a little one?
And...
Pu Lin looked at the last little bird. Why was this one even prettier than the little birds he usually saw?
What an amazing ability to make friends. As expected of a little one from their kind. Pu Lin sighed. His little one had to be the most popular little merfolk ever.
A notification suddenly popped up on the screen, accompanied by a celebratory voice:
"Congratulations, player, on achieving the [High-Cloud Quintet] accomplishment. Under your guidance, the heroes have successfully gathered and will accomplish deeds renowned throughout the universe, shatter the gloom, dispel the darkness, rewrite history, and forge an immortal legend."
High-Cloud Quintet? Was that something tasty?
Pu Lin tilted his head and chewed on the little fish in his mouth.
He didn't get it.
Now that he had these special little ones, it didn't seem so strange if more fish that ran around on land or gorgeous little birds showed up later, either.
