Ning Qu is not a good person.
He's vile by nature, selfish and cunning, and repays kindness with betrayal. Everyone despises him.
He is so infamous that the immortals should have executed him, but with a face that could entrance all living beings and lips that could spill sweet nectar, he successfully seduces the prison guards and escapes death.
To avoid his pursuers, Ning Qu changes his name and hides deep in the mountains.
There's a temple in the mountains, and inside it is a blind monk of unmatched beauty. Ning Qu is captivated by his looks and uses every trick to lure him into bed.
Night after night, he begs the blind monk for pleasure, pouring countless sweet nothings from his rosy lips. They seem like a pair of lovers lost in the throes of passion.
But the blind monk cannot see. He cannot see the coldness in those eyes, even as Ning Qu loses himself in desire.

Years later, the turmoil has subsided.
Ning Qu leaves without a word, leaving only a bag of silver for the blind monk.
Once he leaves the mountains, he joins the most respected immortal sect. The sect cultivates the emotionless Dao, stays out of worldly affairs, and knows nothing about his mess of a past. Perfect.
By sheer luck, Ning Qu arrives just as the sect leader emerges from seclusion and is unexpectedly chosen as his personal disciple, making countless fellow disciples green with envy.
The external threat remains, and his fellow disciples are wary of him.
Those are all minor problems.
What truly makes his heart pound is the moment he kneels in the main hall at the initiation ceremony and looks up at the sect leader seated high above him.
To his astonishment, the sect leader has a familiar face.
It's exactly the same face as the blind monk who had stirred his heart and broken his vow of chastity.
The sect leader's eyesight has recovered. He looks down at Ning Qu impassively, his gaze appraising. "Have you ever been to Mount Fan?"
Ning Qu's palms are clammy with cold sweat, but his expression remains composed. "Reporting to Master, this disciple has not."
