Blessings

Xu Qingyu had never left the small town by the river where he was born and raised.

His family relied on a single fishing net to make a living.

As a child, Xu Qingyu went fishing in the river with his father. Before every trip, they would pay their respects to the nameless god, praying for their safety.

He had thought this peaceful life would last forever, until the day the water began to rise.

Xie Tianqi had been Xu Qingyu's protector since childhood.

As an adult, he became everyone's guardian.

Whenever his black-and-red ritual robes danced in the wind, Xie Tianqi became the bridge between the people and the nameless god.

He prayed for disasters to be averted, blessings to be bestowed, and fair weather and bountiful harvests.

If the nameless god was the town's faith, then Xie Tianqi was its living presence.

Whenever a child in town fell ill or cried inconsolably, the family would feel much calmer just by asking him to come over.

Xu Qingyu often said, "I guess I'm lucky, too."

Because the god is always by my side.

The fishing boats couldn't withstand the rocking, and the town couldn't bear the rising waters.

The sudden crisis threw life into chaos. Fishing boats vanished from the river, while Nuo dances appeared before the townspeople again and again.

After one more prayer for blessings, Xu Qingyu finally asked him, "Will the nameless god protect us?"

Xie Tianqi thought to himself: We need to leave this place.

But aloud, he said, "I'll keep you safe."
