Chun Yuan of the Imperial Kitchen had finally made it to the age when she could leave the palace. She had saved money, learned a craft, and was just waiting to open her own restaurant once she was out.
But an imperial edict of betrothal assigned her as the wife of the powerful Chief Eunuch Lou, to be his companion in marriage.
Everyone in court knew that Director Lou was ruthless. There was only one thing he had pursued for ten years: clearing the names of his father and elder brother, who had died unjustly.
Chun Yuan only wanted a peaceful life, but after marrying into the Lou household, she gradually discovered that...
The piles of old records in her husband's study held secrets capable of overturning the court.
And the truth he had risked his life to pursue was hiding an abyss of revelations.
On the night of the palace coup, flames scorched the sky.
Lou Sishu stood before the palace with a blade in hand, his brocade robe stained with blood. He turned to her and asked:
"Chun Yuan, if I was wrong... then what did these ten years mean?"
He once waded through blood to clear his name, yet found spring in the foulest place.
She had no intention of stepping into the deep waters, yet found refuge in the most perilous place.
