The Fuzzy Little Ugly Monster

The old toys in the house had been taken out of a cardboard box in the attic. Each carried distant memories of its own. But the ugly little plush monster was different. He was brand-new, and could only vaguely remember a pair of gentle hands sewing him together, stitch by stitch. He felt different from the other toys, but didn't know how.

The plush monster remembered the first time he met the little girl. She had angrily thrown him onto the floor, and he could almost feel her anger and sadness. Ignoring the other toys' objections, he set off on an adventure to help her...

"What is she doing?"

"Humans call it sleeping."

"Do we need to do that?"

"Of course not. We're toys. Toys don't get sleepy."

"What is love?"

"It's a silly human emotion. We toys don't need that sort of thing."

"Can toys cry?"

"We don't have tears."

"But we can have our hearts broken by sadness," another toy said.
