At fifteen, Wen Huai moves into his mother's family home, the Jiang residence, to continue his studies.
Everyone at the residence sees him as a handsome young man as beautiful as jade, and they all adore him. Wen Huai spends two peaceful, happy years there.
At the start of the new year, Jiang Yanzong, the eldest son of the Jiang family's main branch, returns home after being promoted. He was adopted by Wen Huai's uncle, yet he is the very model of excellence. Still young, he has already become a provincial governor, wielding sole authority over the region.
This outstanding older brother treats Wen Huai very well, often sending servants to bring him things: an inkstone today, a set of clothes tomorrow. Whenever he has time, he even calls Wen Huai to his courtyard to personally tutor him.
At first, Wen Huai happily goes to see him. But eventually, whenever he passes that courtyard, his legs start trembling.
