[The survival rule for grad students: If my advisor says east, I absolutely won't go west.
Even if my advisor tells me to get closer to his son.]
To get into her advisor's research group, Jiang Ting Tong rushes to the bird-watching outing hosted by his son and singles out Zhuang Wangshu, the one who looks most like a young master. She maxes out her people-pleasing skills: handing him binoculars, sharing snacks, explaining bird species, afraid she'll be punished if she's even a step too slow.
But there's always another man beside her, vying with Jiang Ting Tong to curry favor. The two compete and grow jealous, each determined to become the young master's closest confidant.

Only at a group dinner, when her advisor gets drunk and calls his son to come drive them home, does Jiang Ting Tong realize she got two things wrong:
1. She was sucking up to the wrong person. The one competing with her is the real young master.
2. Advisor! Your son is gay! Your son is gay!
Jiang Ting Tong packs her bags and makes a run for it in the middle of the night, only to find Zhuang Wangshu blocking the doorway.
"You flirted with me and now you're running? You heartless little liar."

Ting Tong: the rising sun.
Wangshu: the bright moon.
