Three hundred years ago, the war between immortals and demons came to an end with the immortal sects victorious.
The Demon Venerable of that era was run through the heart by Immortal Lord Fushu, leader of the immortal sects, leaving no chance of resurrection or reincarnation.
After the war, however, Immortal Lord Fushu defied the objections of the other immortals and insisted on taking Yue Heng, the Demon Venerable's son, as his disciple. He even announced that Yue Heng would be his only disciple.
For over a hundred years, the immortal lord taught the Demon Venerable's son, painstakingly purging the demonic energy entrenched in his disciple's constitution before passing on secret cultivation techniques. Against all odds, he molded him from the Demon Venerable's son into a rising star of the immortal sects, renowned for both virtue and talent.
All the while, mockery and opposition came without end. Some even went so far as to attack the immortal lord himself.
But the immortal lord paid them no heed. He went about his days with a handsome, impassive face, his eyes as calm as still water, betraying no hint of what he might be thinking.
On the day Yue Heng broke through to the Nascent Soul realm, clouds glowed across the immortal sects' skies and phoenixes sang in unison. Even the powerful elders who disliked Yue Heng most sincerely congratulated Immortal Lord Fushu.
The immortal lord's expression remained serene. Always dressed in white, he seemed like snow atop a lofty mountain. Only when Yue Heng emerged from seclusion did he greet him with a smile as warm as the spring breeze, melting the ice and snow in an instant.
The next moment, a savage, bloodied hole appeared in the immortal lord's flawless white robes.
His only disciple, Yue Heng, whom he had raised under immense pressure and with all his heart, had run the treasured sword he had gifted him through his heart.

Yan Sheng was an ordinary teacher in the 21st century. On his way home from work, a speeding car spun out of control and sent him flying.
When he awoke, Yan Sheng found himself in an immortal cultivation world, inhabiting the body of Immortal Lord Fushu, revered by all.
But Yan Sheng had no interest in vanquishing demons and defending the righteous, much less in living as long as the heavens. He still wanted to return to the real world, where there were novels he had yet to finish, games awaiting updates, students he couldn't stop worrying about, and the kitten he had raised.
After reading through every kind of text in the immortal realm, Yan Sheng found a way back to the real world: he had to be killed by this world's Child of Destiny.
That Child of Destiny was none other than the Demon Venerable's son and heir to the demon realm, Yue Heng.
Right in front of Yue Heng, Yan Sheng killed his biological father, then forcibly took Yue Heng as his disciple and disciplined him harshly, beating and berating him at every turn.
After a hundred years of making Yue Heng hate him, while Yue Heng's strength steadily improved, Yan Sheng finally got the sword through the heart he had been waiting for.
But when he opened his eyes again, Yan Sheng found himself still in the immortal cultivation world. He grabbed a passerby and asked what year it was.
The passerby stared at his face, still shaken, and answered, "Two hundred years after the death of Immortal Lord Fushu."
Yan Sheng was just as shocked. "Wasn't I supposed to go straight back to the real world? Why am I still stuck in this godforsaken place?"

Just as Yan Sheng was about to continue searching for a way home, the passerby returned with a black-clad man brimming with murderous intent.
The man wore heavy armor and a gold-patterned mask. His cloak was spattered with blood that had yet to dry, making it look as though he had just returned from the battlefield.
Yan Sheng saw something familiar in those drooping black eyes. With an easy laugh, he spread his arms and said, "Long time no see, disciple. Want to stab your master again?"
Yue Heng removed his mask, revealing a face so beautiful it seemed almost sharp. The black eyes that had once held boundless hatred now looked as fragile as glass, and his lips quivered with the deepest grievance.
Yan Sheng thought of his cat, while Yue Heng threw himself into his arms, nuzzling his neck with desperate affection. His voice trembling, he said, "Master, you've finally woken up."

Yue Heng hated someone.
That man killed the father who had loved Yue Heng, defeated his people, then imprisoned him at his side and abused and disciplined him.
So Yue Heng waited for his chance and ended the man's life with a single sword strike.
But when the man's body went cold in his arms, Yue Heng suddenly longed for the hand that used to stroke his head.
For the next two hundred years, Yue Heng lit a soul-summoning lantern, used a secret resurrection technique, and watched over the man's body.
Little by little, he came to understand everything the man had tried to teach him:
1. Don't take or damage what other people treasure without permission.
2. When you do something wrong, apologize and make amends right away, whether or not the other person forgives you.
3. Say thank you when someone helps you.
4. Lend a hand when someone needs help.
5. Be someone who does no harm to society.
Yue Heng did all of these things, and Heaven took pity on him, sending the man back to his side.
He was ready to take any beating or punishment, but the man wanted only to die and wouldn't spare him a glance.

"I know I was wrong, Master. You can scold me, beat me, even kill me..."
"Please... don't abandon me... Please... don't think about taking another disciple..."
